Welcome to the first newsletter after the start of the astronomical spring date on the 20th of March. Hmmmm – well it’s obviously a delayed start …….. what is happening with our weather?
Oh well, we continue on at Compton McRae and have had a really busy March, culminating in our Easter Saturday BBQ (which was held in brilliant sunshine). It was a great day with over 100 people filling the marquee and spilling outside onto the picnic tables. Thank you for everyone’s patience, especially when I attempted a new style of Smokey Burgers and filled the marquee in the process. I appreciate no one calling the Fire Brigade, nor taking any photos – I did have it under control (despite my son Max insisting he got the fire extinguisher!).
There’s a lot happening at Compton McRae over the next few weeks, so here’s a reminder:

We have made the final 5 for BEST CAFE in Wiltshire. Thank you for all your support and votes to help us reach this round. But now the serious bit starts – the voting resets to zero so we need everyone to log back in and vote again.

COMPTON MCRAE COFFEE RUN – 2nd Edition
Sunday 21 April 8.00am – 10:30am
Our inaugural Sunday morning Coffee Run was a great success with over 50 cars of all shapes, sizes, and ages and at least 100 people – this was despite the light drizzle that kept many cars and their owners away.
We are hoping for finer weather on Sunday 21st April (my weather Angel says 14 degrees and light cloud, mostly sunny).

Chaldicott Barns Spring Fair
Saturday 27 April 10.00am – 4.00pm
The flyers are now out (pick one up in the shop). It’s going to be a huge day with a diverse array of makers, designers, and stalls. Compton McRae will be open for all your sustenance and deli goods – more details of our lunch menu will follow in due course.
My long term weather Angel says all is good – 15 degrees and full sun (I don’t argue with her – she’s never wrong.)
Compton McRae Meal Deal 2.0
The Meal Deal continues to be really well received with your feedback confirming it is great value for 2 people but we have listened and have slightly jigged the offering.
The Meal Deal (for 2 people) comprises of a pot of soup, a main course, a pudding or cheese board, and a bottle of wine.
Meat Option – £40.00 (without wine £30.00)
Veg Option – £35.00 (without wine £25.00)
We have a variety of meals, some fresh and some frozen – we can’t always guarantee what’s in stock but there is always a great range.
Other News
I’m so sick of the weather that I’ve decided to relocate to Namibia. Actually, it’s been a lifelong dream to do a 4 wheel drive safari – so I’m heading with Caroline on Tuesday for a couple of weeks. I promise to be back at some stage (23rd April).
In the meantime, Oscara and her friend Jenna are composing and sending this newsletter from their wifi-less hut in Magnetic Island (just off of Townsville in Australia). Oscara went down to visit family in Tasmania and while she was there she came across Billy’s leavers yearbook. Can you spot which one he is? Double points if you can guess what his role was…
