Hello Everyone,
Guess what – the sun is finally out – what a glorious week it’s been so far!
The lawns have been mown, the weeds strimmed, and the umbrellas put up. Our stretch tent will reappear in the coming week. Bring on summer….
I’m even dusting off the cricket whites for my first game on Saturday – if you don’t see me Monday it’ll be because I won’t be able to move!
I had a wonderful 2 weeks in Namibia – it was beautiful, hot and the landscapes and scenery amazing. No people at all and when we did see someone, they were so friendly and helpful. Lots of walking on beaches, climbing dunes and swimming in the Southern Atlantic (see the photos above)
Back to Semley where it was still raining! We went into the Chaldicott Barns Spring Fair – such a successful day for everyone involved – we served 325 coffees – our record. Big thank you to everyone who came and supported the many small local artisan producers and stall holders.
SAVE THE DATE: Chaldicott Barns Award Fair – Saturday 30th November.
We have launched a new Chaldicott Barns website which showcases what all the businesses on site are up to – be sure to pass on the details to anyone visiting the area – https://chaldicott-barns.co.uk.
Compton McRae Menu and Ready-made meals
You will notice the changing menu as the weather warms up – lighter and loads of fresh salads and in season vegetables.
Coronation Chicken (a Compton McRae classic) is back in the fridge but to save any disappointment, we urge you to call and order. We continually make it fresh but have already found disappointed customers who arrive late in the day and there’s none left. We can make it for 1 – 100 people, with or without rice or salad – just call!
Our Compton McRae Meal Deal is now a permanent fixture – offering both vegetarian and meat options, with or without wine – so please just ask our staff.
Muddy Stiletto Awards
We made the final 5 for Best Regional Café in Wiltshire. Thank you for all your support and votes to help us reach the final round. We didn’t win but appreciate all your votes, support, and encouragement.

Work at Compton McRae!
We’re looking for a full time chef in the kitchen.
Standard days of work Tuesday-Saturday, 0800-1600 but available for evening work, usually a couple of times a month, more in the summer.
Working with fresh produce in a friendly, busy kitchen.
We would prefer someone with a good background in kitchens who could potentially take on and run outside catering events with a team, but happy to consider anyone who is hard working and willing to learn.
Very competitive rates of pay based on experience.
New Product – we are really pleased to be supporting and stocking the original photographs of Louise McKenna (Instagram @louisemckenna0).
Louise lives locally in Dorset, and is the winner of many local photography awards. We have a selection of both framed and mounted photographs on display. Louise specialises in Landscape Astrophotography – it has to be seen to be believed.
Please remember to give us a call or pop in for any of your summer catering and food needs – from picnics to canapes, from food for dinner parties to larger functions – we are happy to help and advise.
Look forward to seeing you all soon.
Many thanks
